Latest Update: I spoke to Becky Stinson about an hour ago. Chase is still having a pretty good day. His tempature is down and his oxygen levels are still about 90. The pneumonia in his lung is getting better.

They are still keeping him heavily sedated so he can rest.

Thanks to the Stinsons, you can now e-mail Johnny direct in his hotel room. They took him a laptop and set up an e-mail account for him.

The e-mail address is rider910@msn.com.

Please don’t be offended if Johnny doesn’t answer every e-mail. He only spends a few minutes a day in his hotel room–the rest of the time, he is in the waiting room outside the ICU. The volume of calls and messages he is getting is incredible.

Now everyone can send their messages directly to Johnny. Even if he can’t answer them all, I can assure you he is reading and appreciating every one!

Thanks again for everything everyone is doing. It really means alot to Johnny and Chase!

Tom

Tom is doing a great job with keeping all of us posted. Allen, Alex and I went to see Johnny last night. We visited him at his hotel, which is very nice, and offers a place for him to rest and stay strong for Chase. We assured Johnny of the fund we had set up at Compass Bank, and went over the details of it, and let him know that it was for he and Chase for whatever they needed funds for. He was so thankful for all of the support from everyone. Our next step is to get him a lap top so he can set up an email account and those that wish to can send emails to he and Chase. This will be healing for Johnny to read these and take them to Chase when he can visit him.

I just want to take a moment to thank everyone for their support for Chase and Johnny this past weekend at Big Cedar. Besides a portion of the proceeds from Saturday and Sunday’s race, we received donations in the amount of $1,529.00. That is so awesome! Thanks to everyone. Want to take a moment to thank Tony for a great church service on Sunday, we were able to hear from Tom about Chase and his condition and a big thanks to FCAMx, and JMR Powersports for the sell of the t-shirts. I also know that Matthew Holt has set up the Pay Pal account for those that wish to make donations that way. We just appreciate all of the support we have been given, since we decided to set this fund up for Johnny and Chase. Let’s keep it rolling in, and our next fund raiser will be the silent auction at MillCreek during the regionals.

Monday was a good day for Chase. Visited with Johnny yesterday afternoon and he said doing much better. As of 3:30pm here’s the latest:

Chase’s fever is gone. He went from 105 on Sunday to a normal temperature yesterday. The pneumonia is limited to upper portion of his left lung and the doctors feel that have that under control. They were able to put Chase in a new rotating bed that allows them to turn him more effectively and more often.

Chase’s oxygen levels are staying up, but they did have to turn his ventilator back up to 90%. Johny said they also had to sedate Chase a little more for a while because he is fighting the ventilator.

All in all, it was a good day for Chase. No major set backs, he’s resting comfortably and his fever is gone.

I’ll try to post an update later today if anything changes.

ALSO, we got our first two cards to Chase out of the P.O. Box. Those folks must have been standing at the post office with their card in hand when we published the address.

Please keep the cards and letters coming–as Johnny really appreciates the message of support. And I’m certain that Chase will soon be awake and alert enough for Johnny to read them to him.

Talk to you soon…

I spoke to Johnny this weekend and have been keeping in close touch with the Stinson’s who have been there almost constantly. I will be going up to UAB later today.

This weekend Chase developed pneumonia in the uper portion of one of his lungs and started running a fever. At one point the fever was up to 105.

There is good news though. They have the pneumonia under control. They changed out all of Chase’s IV lines and are treating him for a fungus that they think is causing the fever. Most importantly, they have turned his ventilator down to 70% and his oxygen levels are staying above 90.

That means with not too much more progress they will be able to get him off the ventilator, take him out of the medically induced coma and will be able to repair his femur.

He spoke to Johnny yesterday–he told Johnny he loved him.

Due to Chase’s vulnerable condition, Johnny asked me to tell everyone they are welcome to come visit him in the hospital–he has really enjoyed the company and has drawn a lot of strenght from the many visits by his motocross family. However, for at least the next fews days, he will not be allowing visitors to see Chase.

With the infection he is fighting and pneumonia, Johnny felt it would be best to limit the number of people going in Chase’s room.

I will post another update this evening when I return from seeing Johnny.

Johnny sends his thanks!

6/02/06 Good News….Chase is Doing Better…..

Good News! Just talked to the Stinsons. Chase is doing much better today. The x-rays of his lungs showed major improvement–a lot less fluid. His blood pressure is up and steady and his oxygen level (sats) are up to 95%–a huge improvement over yesterday and up quite a bit from this morning.

They have started turning down the trach tube so they can eventually take him off of it.

Becky said he looks much better–a lot more rested. He will still be in the medically-induced coma for another day or so. No word on when they will repair the borken femur–I’ll post something as soon as I know.

The doctors plan on putting him in a different bed some time today so they can turn him more often–to keep his lungs from filling with fluid again.

On a separate note, we opened a post office box for Chase so everyone can send him and Johnny cards and letters. We’ll check it often and take them to the hospital several times a week.

The address is: Chase (or Johnny) Borders, P.O. Box 210656, Montgomery, AL 36121-0656. I would love to see us fill that sucker up several times a week. Last night I took the latest postings from the GA-mxracing.com forum and I think Johnny read them all about four times.

It’s times like these that make you really appreciate what you have. I know Johnny and Chase are incredibly thankful for all of you that are giving them strength through your support and prayers.

Thanks to each and every one of you!

6/01/06 Chase has a rough day…..

Got back from the hospital a little while ago. Chase had a very rough day–but is doing better now. Despite having the trach tube put in to ease his breathing and give the doctors better access to drain fluids off his lungs, Chase went thorugh a very rough period today when his oxygen levels and blood pressure dropped to dangerous levels.

After the doctors gave him two units of blood, his oxygen levels and blood pressure rebounded and he is doing better now. He is not out of the woods–but is doing much better this evening.

With all our prayers and Chase’s determination–he’s going to get through this and get well.

Johnny sends his thanks to everyone!

6/0106 Surgery to Insert a Trach

Latest update as of 8:30 Friday morning. Just talked with Becky Stinson. The surgery to insert the trach went well. They were able to get a lot of stuff out of Chase’s lungs including a large blood clot in his right lung.To help him rest and recover they have put Chase in a medically induced coma for two-to-three days. Not being able to talk to Chase for the next few days is going to be really tough on Johnny.

I will post again when I have more news.

6/01/06 Hospital Update

Posted in History by Administrator on the February 12th, 2010

Posted - 06/01/2006 :  01:10:59 AM by TomB

Just left the hospital and talked to Johnny, here’s the latest as of about 10pm tonight:Chase was awake, alert and talking most of the day today. He told Johnny “Get me out of here!” several times today. By the end of the evening he was apparently wore out and less responsive.

He is still on a ventilator. They tried last night and again this evening to wean him off the ventilator but his respirations are just not strong enough yet. It appears he may have some fluid in his lungs. He also has apparently developed a nasal infection.

Johnny spoke to the orthopedic surgeon this evening and he told Johnny that the femur had a clean break in a spot that would be relatively easy to fix. Right now the plan is to insert a rod in the broken femur on Friday.

They will have to put in a “trach” tube before the leg surgery. Apparently they need to do that so he can breathe more eficiently and so they can better deal with the fluid build-up in his lungs.

NEW UPDATE: Just got a call from Becky Stinson. It’s just after midnight and they are taking Chase to put the trach in immediately. The doctors are saying they are having trouble keeping Chase’s oxygen levels up–even with the ventilator operating at 100 percent.

Johnny is hanging in there–but is obviously very concerned over this latest development.

Earlier he told me to tell everyone how deeply he appreciates all the messages of support and all the prayers for he and Chase. He said to tell those who have called him that although he can’t return every call, he is listening to every message people are leaving.

Let’s all hope this latest challenge is one Chase will get over very quickly so he can get on the road to recovery.

It looks like the surgery on the leg may have to post-poned again until they get Chase’s oxygen levels where they need to be. Hopefully the trach will make that happen quickly.

I will post again tonight if I hear anything new. If not, I’ll try to get an update tomorrow.

Johnny and Chase–we’re all praying for you!

Tom B.
